Clairmont “Tub” Summers, 90, of Jupiter, Florida, formerly of Linesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

Born May 28, 1926 in Walton, West Virginia, he was the son of Everett Lawson and Willa Mae Droddy Summers.  He married Ardeth Dowell VanNort on July 24, 1949 in Marienville, Pennsylvania; she preceded him in death on February 19, 2007.

He is a member of Grace Immanuel Bible Church in Jupiter, Florida.

In 1944, he graduated Jefferson Union High School in Richmond, Ohio.  Upon graduation he entered the Army and was in the 38th Infantry Division serving in New Guinea and the Philippines.  He was discharged in 1946 after serving 30 months.  He started work with Harford Bros. pipeline contractors, in Emporium, Pennsylvania where he was heavy equipment operator and foreman.

In 1952, Tub left Harford Bros. to help form Skyline Steel Erection, Inc. in Linesville.  They erected structural steel in the Tri-State area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York.

Linesville Construction Co. came into being in 1955 when Tub bought two bulldozers and started an excavating business, engaging in farm conservation work, building roads, moving drilling rigs, etc.  This company was incorporated in 1960, and he was named its president.

Having been raised in the oil fields and never having gotten pipelining out of his system, in 1957 he started doing pipeline distribution work and gradually entered into all phases of pipeline construction.

One interesting project of the Linesville Construction Co. was the laying of the first natural gas line in Vermont from the Canadian border south to Burlington.  This was constructed in the winter of 1965!  Linesville Construction Co. had many contracts with major oil and gas companies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia.  Linesville Construction grew into Utility Contractors Inc. in 1969, which Tub operated with his son, Lynn, until UCI was sold to National Fuel Gas in 1985.  The main office and warehouse of the companies was located in Linesville, PA.  Tub always gave much of the credit for the success of the companies to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the faithful and dedicated men and women who had worked with him.

He was an extremely active business entrepreneur with many interests that included Summers Leasing, Riverside Golf Course, Summers and Perkins Drilling, Spaldings, Inc. in Meadville, and St. Lucy Development.

He was very active in the community affairs of Linesville and was a member of many civic organizations, which included being on the Meadville Medical Center Board for 11 years and the Integra Bank Board for 15 years.  Tub and his wife Ardeth were founding members of Jonathan's Landing in Jupiter, Florida.

He enjoyed hunting and boating and was partial to hunting pheasants in South Dakota and deer and wild turkey in Pennsylvania.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Ferraro and her husband, Mark, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Lynn C. Summers; two sisters, Inez Asburry and Erma Lou Summers; and three brothers, Harold Lawson Summers, Ray Donald Summers, and Harry D. Summers.

A viewing and funeral was held in Jupiter, Florida on June 25.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.   Additional calling hours will be Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. before the service.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Tubbs officiating.

Burial will be in Linesville Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Lynn Summers Linesville Little League Complex, P. O. Box 481, the Linesville Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 215, both of Linesville, PA  16424 or the Meadville Medical Center Foundation, 736 Liberty St., Meadville, Pa 16335.
