Dear Janet, Keith & Barbie, Jackie & Ted, Stacy & Family -
Our hearts are broken to learn of Mel's passing and go out to each and every one of you.  Mel was a kind, caring, genuine man who had an infectious laugh and a wonderful smile.  Mel & Janet and my parents (Earl & Esther Weaver from Fryburg, PA) were lifelong friends whose friendship(s) went back to their school days at Shippenville High School.  After my Mom passed away (1999), every August (for several years), Mel and my Dad looked forward to and enjoyed attending the Brockway Truck Show and Parade in Cortland, NY.  That was always their "Guy's Weekend" and Mel was always the "DD" (Designated Driver)!  After my Dad passed (2005), Mel and I kept in contact.  Mel always called around the Holidays.  We would reminisce, check on how each other's family was doing and catch up on the goings on in and around the Tri-State area (Clarion/Marble, Shippenville/Oil City, etc.).  One Christmas, the phone rang and my youngest daughter (she was probably 7 or 8) picked the phone up.  I noticed that she was very quiet and I didn't hear her say anything.  I asked her who it was and she said, "It was some guy asking if Plumsie was here?"  She said, "Well, there's no Plumsie here so I hung up."  My Dad and Mel always called me "Pumsie" or "Pums" for short and, needless to say, I was horrified that she hung up on Mel.  I quickly called Mel back to apologize!!! We laughed and laughed at that.  Sometimes, some of the stories that Mel would tell me, he would laugh so hard that he would start crying.  And, I would be crying too, right along with him!  I always looked forward to and enjoyed those Holiday phone calls from Mel.  We always had sooo many good laughs!  I will miss that phone call terribly.  And Mel will be missed terribly by all who knew him.   Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours at this difficult time.  Love you all!  Drive on, Mel!

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Mel's passing.  Mel and I worked together as drivers for Palmiero Toyota for 13 years.  During that time we became great friends.  We had many wonderful adventures together on the road.  What impressed me about Mel was his dedication to the task at hand and his professional and always charming way of dealing with people.  Mel was a tremendously caring individual.  He was always visiting, helping, and supporting friends in need.  I had not seen Mel for several months and was just thinking last week that I needed to call him to get together for one of our coffee chats at Tim Horton's - I'm so sorry I didn't get that opportunity.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Janet, Keith, and Jackie and the entire family.  Mel was a very special individual and he will be hugely missed.

Dear Janet, Jackie and Keith,

I was so sorry to hear of Mel's passing.  I have never forgotten the days when I used to babysit Jackie and Keith, the fun we had, and how kind Mel and Janet were to me. Mel was a great man who will be missed by many.  His smile lit up the day.  May God bless each of you during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy,
Darlene Apel Ervin
