Kimberly Ochs Obituary

Kimberly Dawn Ochs, 46, of Middlefield, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Cleveland Clinic, after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer.

Born September 2, 1976, in Greenville, she was the daughter of Robert and Kathy (Williams) Royal.  She married Stephen Ochs on May 19, 2009.

Kim was a 1995 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Clarion University and a Master’s degree in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Kim was devoted to her 21 year career as a biology professor at Cuyahoga Community College.  She served as the biology curriculum co-director and was very passionate about teaching; she especially enjoyed her interactions with her students. The field courses she taught in Costa Rica and the Bahamas were highlights of her teaching career.  She loved learning about insects and plants and had a special fondness for cephalopods (octopuses). She passed her love of nature and environmental biology to both Hadley and her niece, Kaitlyn.

Kim was a serious foodie! She was passionate about cooking and baking. Her love language was sharing home cooked treats with friends and family, especially cakes and apple cider caramels. Her favorite thing to bake were special themed birthday cakes for Hadley. She always looked forward to meeting up for dinner with her supper club friends. Kim had an extensive collection of bundt pans and always enjoyed good coffee and donuts.

Her primary love in life was her family. Kim and Steve shared many wonderful years together before they became parents. Hadley made their family complete. Kim and Hadley were constantly reading, doing crafts, decorating cookies and making fun messes together. Kim’s most amazing accomplishment was being a wonderful mom.

Survivors include her loving husband, Stephen Ochs, her daughter who was the center of her life, Hadley Ochs, her father, Robert Royal and his wife, Jean, of Adamsville, her grandmother, Virginia Royal of Greenville, her brother, Kevin Royal and his wife, Rebecca, of Linesville.  Kim is also survived by her many cherished nieces, nephews, and her extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathy Royal, and Steve’s parents, Stephen W. and Juanita Ochs.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 3, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, located at 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, November 5, at the Fallowfield United Methodist Church, 3993 Leach Road, Atlantic, Pa. with Pastor Chris McLaughlin and Pastor Les Hutchins co-officiating.  Additional calling hours will be before the service from 11 a.m. until noon.

Inurnment will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery in Adamsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chordoma Foundation, P.O. Box 2127, Durham, NC 27702.
