John A. Janke, 88, of Espyville, passed away on November 5, 2022, in Garner, North Carolina. He had recently moved to North Carolina this past summer.
He was born February 28, 1934 in Johannesburg, Germany. John immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1953 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He married Carol Anne (Minor) October 20, 1956.
John worked many years in the meat industry in several roles and retired in 1996. Carol and John retired to their vacation home in Espyville, Pennsylvania, in 2002. John was well known for his candor and his character and would strike up a conversation with anyone.
Carol and John enjoyed traveling and sharing memories of their travels throughout the United States, including Alaska and the Grand Canyon.
John was preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Carol Janke; brother, Werner Jankowski; brother, Karl Janke; sister, Erna Rodewald; brother, Dieter Janke; and sister, Elfriede Wilke.
He is survived by his son, William Janke (Diane) of Garner, North Carolina; daughter, Linda Miller (Brad) of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; along with grandchildren, Becky, Katie, Billy, Amber and Keith; and six great-grandchildren.
John was a one-time cancer survivor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to North Shenango Presbyterian Church, 10377 Church Rd, Espyville, PA 16424.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, November 19th from 10 to 11 a.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Hwy 6, Linesville, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Greg Vanderveen officiating.
Burial will be in Espyville Cemetery.
