George Paraskos Obituary

     George Christ Paraskos, age 94, of Linesville, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Meadville Medical Center, surrounded by his family.  He was born July 12, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pa, to Sofia (Hiotaki) and Christ Paraskos. 

     George proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier the USS Wright as a Petty Officer First Class.  He was very proud of his Greek heritage and was of the Eastern Greek Orthodox faith.  His favorite childhood memories include time living on the Island of Karpathos, Dodecanes Islands, Greece, the birthplace of his parents.  George was very proud of his contributions to the United States Space Exploration Program which included the Apollo, Voyager I & II missions.  In his younger days, George earned a black belt in Jiu Jitsu.  His favorite pastimes include snorkeling, fishing, hunting and gardening. 

     George was preceded in death by his parents Sofia and Christ Paraskos; a sister, Fotini (Fanny) Paraskos; a brother, Paris Paraskos; his beloved aunt Kokona, who loved him as her own son; his uncles, Logothetis, Andreas and Lambros Hiotaki, his beloved wife, LaVerne and his son, Elijah G. Paraskos. 

     Survivors include three daughters, Denise Pouliot and her husband, Ron, Madeira T. Paraskos and Sonya “Peppe” Paraskos all of Linesville; four grandchildren, Amber  “Turnip” Pouliot, Ben Pouliot and his wife, Kayla, Madeline Pouliot and Joseph Pouliot; and great-grandchildren, Mary LaVerne and Henry Francis.  He will be missed by his family. 

     Calling hours will be Sunday, November 5 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

     Funeral services will be private.    

     Burial with full military honors will be in Linesville Cemetery.

     Memorial contributions may be made to the Elijah G. Paraskos 1999 History Scholarship, Thiel College, 75 College Ave., Greenville, Pa 16125.

     The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the many kindness bestowed upon George by the staff of Meadville Medical Center, Wesbury, Dr. Robert Bazylak and his nurse Terry Baker.  He enjoyed the many conversations with Dr. Bazylak.
