Walter Leroy Kennedy, 85, of Linesville, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at his residence after a courageous battle with an extended illness.
Born July 10, 1940, in Smock, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Charles and Mickelina (DeNino) Kennedy. He married Elaine Oberdick on October 29, 1966, at the Linesville United Methodist Church.
He graduated from Glassport High School in 1958. Walt served our country in the United States Army from 1958 until he was honorably discharged in 1960 while stationed in Germany.
Walt worked for 23 years as an inspector at Rockwell International in Ashtabula, Ohio. For 18 years, he then worked at Meadville Forge in Cambridge Springs as a CNC machine operator.
He was a member of the Linesville United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. He was very active at the Conneaut Lake United Methodist Church where he served on the mission board and had been on two mission trips.
Walt enjoyed golfing and watching sports especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He had coached Linesville Little League for several years and also helped establish the Linesville Football Field. Walt truly enjoyed attending the Linesville Lions sporting events. He loved spending time with his children and cherished being active in his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren’s lives.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Elaine Kennedy; a daughter, Amy Turner and her husband, Ben, of Lexington, South Carolina; a son, Michael Kennedy and his wife, Kathy, of Cranesville; six grandchildren, Brennan Miller and his wife, Emily, Erin Granade and her husband, Aaron, and Isaac, Ian, Magdalen and Andrew Kennedy; four great-grandchildren, Corbin, AvaGrace, Eden and Faith; siblings, Russell Kennedy and his wife, LaVerne, of Austintown, Ohio, Nancy Smith of Belle Vernon, Alice Tachoir of Jefferson, Pennsylvania and Rose Wilson of Conneaut Lake; former son-in-law, Doug Miller and his wife, Patty, of Linesville; many nieces and nephews; and many beloved additional family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bob, Tina, Charles, Paul, Joe, Hazel, Edna, Alvin, Tom, Ralph, Sam, Bill and Richard.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
