Robert Edgar Deitz, 86, of Linesville, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at UPMC Horizon Hospital, Greenville, Pa.
Robert was born March 9, 1925, in Dorset, Ohio, a son of the late Resse Edgar Deitz and Naomi (Milles) Deitz. He married June Adair Myers, who survives.
He was a World War II veteran who served in the Pacific Theater from December of 1942 until August of 1945. Robert was a graduate of Ashtabula High School: after World War II, he completed several years of on and off study and became a Certified Management Accountant.
After five years of short term jobs, he began his career with Rockwell International in 1950, the company known then as Timken Detroit Axle Company. His career covered all phases of Accounting and Finance and the supervision and management thereof, until his retirement in 1982. He then worked as a consultant, mostly for Rockwell here and in England and Italy. In 1993 illness ended his career.
Robest moved from Ashtabula to Linesville in the early 1960's when he married June. He was always quite active in community affairs and served for six years on the Board of Directors for Pymatuning Veterans Home Association and for seven years on the Linesville Boro Council, two years as president. He resigned from Council in 1979 when his work took him to England for a period of time.
He also served on the Zoning Board for many years, most of the time as chairman. On February 4, 2011, he was honored by state and local officials for his 28 years on the Zoning Board and seven years on Couincil. Fifth District Republican State Representative John Evans and Gary Clark, who represented the office of Republican State Senator, Bob Robbins, presented Robert with formal citations recognizing his service and spiit of volunteerism.
Robert latest project was to assist in the formation of the Boro Crime Watch. He was also, a member of the Linesville American Legion, Post 462 and The North Shore Boat Club.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, and listening to music of the 20's through the 50's. Robert had an extensive collection of record, tapes, and CD's. He had been an avid golfer, but his first love after his wife and family was writing poetzy. ‘This interest was sparked when he was associated with the Dale Carnegie courses,
Robert started the column “The Poet's Niche” in the “Community News”. The column has featured local poets’ work, and has been well received by the readers. He had poetry published by the “International Society of Poets”, Noble House, London, and the “Community News”. He also had gvo books of collected poems of his published.
In addition to his wife June, Robert is survived by a son Russ and his wife, Kim, of Beavercreek, Ohio; a sister, Marian Frances Hall and her husband Charles of Geneva, Ohio; a brother, Norman R. and his wife, Kathy, Deitz of Kingswood, Texas; a brother John L. and his wife, Zan, Deitz of Charleston, South Carolina; and a brother, Larry M. and his wife, Barb, Deitz, of Houston, Texas. Survivors also include grandchildren Brittany and Preston and the following in-laws: Doug Scott of Grand River, Ohio, Dale and Aclene Santner of Conneaut Lake, George and Alma Warren of Linesville, and Cust Myers of Conneaut, Ohio. Additionally, several nieces and nephews survive.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Ann Scott.
Friends may call on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. 8. Highway 6, Linesville, Pa._A brief service will follow the calling hours at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private in St. Philip Cemetery, Linesville.
