Richard James (Dick) Rodgers, 76, of Linesville, passed away, Sunday, September 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at his residence after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 19, 1937 in Vernon Township, he was the son of Hugh and Eva Hicks Rodgers.  He married Joan F. Pasikoski on November 8, 1958 in Meadville.

He was a 1957 graduate of Meadville High School.  Dick then served our country for four years in the U. S. Army in Germany.  He later served in the United States Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged in 1966.

For a few years, Dick worked at Xerox as a technical representative.  He then worked for many years in the recovery unit at Avtex Fibers in Meadville until   the plant closed in 1985.  For over 20 years, he worked as a truck driver for Schneider National and also as an independent driver.

Dick was a member of the Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church.  He also was a member of the Meadville Elks Lodge #219 and the Linesville American Legion Post 462.

He was a member of the Guardian USA Vets Blue and White, the Summit Township Volunteer Fire Department, and the Conneaut Lake Sportsman’s Club where he was also a past president.  Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and loved to ride his motorcycle.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Joan F. Rodgers; five children, Christopher Rodgers and his wife, Cathy, of Mercer, Kenneth Rodgers of Linesville, Kelley Pennock and her husband, Gerald, of Grand Island, Florida, Richard T. Rodgers of Linesville, and Kimberley Carne and her husband, David, of Harmonsburg; six grandchildren, Frank Knize and his wife, Iris, of Mercer, James and Jared Pennock both of Grand Island, Florida and Alyssa, Angela, and David Carne all of Harmonsburg; two great-grandchildren, Shawn and Saphira; two brothers, Hugh D. Rodgers of South Bend, Indiana and John D. Rodgers and his wife, Mary, of Sugar Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Robert Rodgers; a sister, Margaret (Peg) Adsit; and an infant sister, Julie Rodgers.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Smith, Pastor of Music and Visitation, officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Vernon Township.  Full military honors will be provided by the Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
