Pauline Kuban Bortles, 88, of Linesville, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born May 24, 1922 in Hactstown, a daughter on the late Joseph John and Mary Krajnik Kuban, who both immigrated here from Czechoslovakia. She married Carlyle K. Bortles ‘on November 12, 1949 at St. Peter’s Church in Conneautville. Pauline was a 1940 graduate of North Shenango High School where she played on the women’s basketball team. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville. Prior to her marriage she had been employed at Ohio Rubber in Conneautville during World War IT and at Molded Fiberglass in Linesville. She also worked as a waitress at Linnwood Restaurant in Linesville. She was a loving and devoted homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara S. Bortles of Grandview, Missouri; a son, James R. Bortles and his wife, Terri and a beloved grandson, Chase Bortles all of Linesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Jo; four brothers, Joseph, Francis, Richard, and Louis Kuban; and three sisters, Mary LaSalle, Ann Allio, and Agnes Conlon. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 US. Highway 6, Linesville. A prayer vigil will be held at 1:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St, Linesville, with Father John A. Walsh as celebrant. All are asked to please meet at the church on Monday. Burial will be private in St. Philip’ Cemetery.
