Norma Ann Shelatz, age 79, of Conneautville, daughter of Norman and Alma (Vogan) Mitcheltree, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 12, 2026. While her family grieves at her passing, they rejoice in the assurance of her eternal home with Christ and the generous life she lived.
Born on November 14, 1946, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, she was known for her compassionate spirit and her extraordinary gift of encouragement. She had a unique ability to see potential in others and encourage them, especially in the lives of children and young people.
She shared 57 devoted years of marriage with her faithful husband, Robert (Bob) Shelatz. Together they built a Christ-centered home and remained steadfast through life’s joys and challenges, modeling perseverance and enduring love.
Her commitment to her community was extensive. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree From Grove City College, she served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Crawford County Solid Waste Authority, as Secretary of the Greenwood Athletic Association, and on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, including serving as President. She was President of the Conneaut Lake All Sports Boosters for five years. Professionally, she was Co-Owner of Mitcheltree's Inc and worked for more than nine years at The First National Bank of Linesville.
Her greatest ministry, however, was to children. She faithfully taught Sunday School for over 40 years at Reach Church and served as church pianist from 1977 through 2009. She also taught Jr. church, VBS and Release Time at Conneautville Church of Christ for many years. Through decades of Bible teaching, music, and gentle guidance, she planted seeds of faith that will continue to bear fruit for generations. She also taught piano lessons for many years, encouraging not only musical excellence but confidence and character in her students.
She is survived by her son, Jeremy Shelatz and his wife, Robin, of Conneautville, Pa., and their children, Ali and Tristan Shelatz; her son, Jody Shelatz and his wife, Cammie, of Beaver, Pa., and their children, Branden and Caroline Shelatz of Flemington WV, Troy and Hannah (Shelatz) Ramos of Sunrise, FL, Meghan Shelatz and her fiancé, Felix Rivera, of Manhattan, KS, and her son Jake Shelatz and his wife, Becky, of Indiana, Pa., and their children, Chloe and Myah; as well as four great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy within the Shelatz family.
Her life was marked by faith, service, music, and steadfast devotion. The legacy she leaves—in her family, her church, and her community—will endure.
A funeral service will be held at Conneautville Church of Christ on Tuesday, February 17, at 2:00 p.m. Calling hours will be Monday, February 16, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., and Tuesday from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation for the Children’s Ministry and Children’s Outreach at the Conneautville Church of Christ.
