LaVerne M. Paraskos, 82, of Linesville, went to her heavenly home, Friday, November 16, 2012, at the Meadville Medical Center.
Born June 4, 1930 in Bossier City, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Juan and Teresa Perez Guerrero and grew up in the southwest. She married George C. Paraskos and they raised a family of four children.
In high school, she was a star athlete in track, basketball, and baseball.
Professionally, LaVeme was a registered nurse and a nutritionist. She had served on the Conservation Commission in Lowell, Massachusetts. For many years, she volunteered with various veteran organizations and served on the Board of Directors for the Linesville Volunteer Fire Department. She was involved in the Senior Citizen Program's while living in Massachusetts. Also, she enjoyed working with the Salvation Army for many years.
She was heavily involved in her children's school prograrns and activities serving on many committees and as the President of their PTA’s. She was instrumental in running many successful fundraisers for the schools that her children attended. LaVerne was a supporter and advocate for St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota.
She loved reading, doing needlework, cooking for her family, and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed the outdoors going camping, hunting and fishing.
LaVerne was a devoted mother, wife, and homemaker. Her greatest joy in life were her four children and she took great pride in her four grandchildren. Her family was her whole world and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, George C. Paraskos;, Denise Pouliot and her husband, Ronald, Madeira Paraskos and Sonya (Peppe) Paraskos all of Linesville; four grandchildren, Amber, Benjamin, Christopher and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Elijah George Paraskos.
The family will receive friends on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. S. Highway 6, Linesville. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Marshall Lillie, officiating. Burial will follow in Linesville Cemetery.
