John Donald Ortmann Sr.

John Donald Ortmann Sr., 84, of Linesville, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born June 9, 1928 in Ford City, Pennsylvania, to John J. and Elizabeth McGority Ortmann.  He married Mary Esther Myers on May 3, 1958.

John worked at PPG in Ford City for 20 years as a glass worker and for 24 years at PPG in Meadville as a maintenance worker. He retired in 1993.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the 7 th infantry during the Korean War.

He enjoyed working in the yard, taking care of his home, bird watching, loved nature and doing crossword puzzles and games on the computer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Esther Ortmann; two daughters, Renne Kehn of Springboro and Rebecca Miller and her husband, Gary, of Linesville; a son, Christopher Scott Ortmann and his wife, Marcie, of Lyndora, Pa; seven grandchildren, Conrad, Daniel, Ronda and Derek Kehn, Brandon Ortmann, Jared Miller and Logan Ortmann; one great-granddaughter who he was very fond of, Rylee Kehn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Donald Ortmann Jr., who died June 15, 2009; four brothers, James, Larry, Bernard and Robert Ortmann; and two sisters, Mary Catherine Elwood and Delores Rose Ortmann.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. S. Highway 6, Linesville.

A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa 16335.
