John H. Evans, 87, of Conneautville, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Meadville Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born October 21, 1928, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of William and Mary Latherow Evans. He married Coral B. Gadley on April 17, 1954.
John served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army, 424 Field Artillery Battalion, during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until he was honorably discharged in 1952.
For 45 years, he owned and operated his own small engine repair business, Evans Sales & Service, where he became acquainted with the vast majority of residents of Crawford County and beyond. He was a person who made friends easily and was well-known wherever he went.
He was a member of the Harmonsburg United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842.
In his spare time, John enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Coral B. Evans; three children, Mark R. Evans and his wife, JoAnn, of Conneautville, Lee A. Turner and her husband, Clair, of Hadley and Daniel E. Evans of Conneautville; four grandchildren, John M. Evans and his wife, Shannon, of Conneautville, Melissa A. Grimm and her husband, Justin, of Erie, Jenny Mann and her husband, Steve, of Clarks Summit, and Ryan Bortner of Linesville; nine great-grandchildren, A.J. and Wes Evans, Evan and Ella Grimm, Jacob, Kaylee, Zachary and Kaitlyn Mann, and Annabelle Bortner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, 14182 First St., Harmonsburg, with Rev. Dennis E. Lawton officiating. Additional calling hours will be at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
Burial with full military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Meadville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 232, Harmonsburg, Pa 16422.
