Howard J. (Joe) Simmerman, 86, of Linesville, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born January 3, 1934, in Wytheville, Virginia, he was the son of Otto and Nora Lucille (Ghee) Simmerman. He married Joan E. Watson on April 18, 1958.
Joe graduated from Linesville High School and then served our country in the United States Army from 1952 until honorably discharged in 1955.
In his younger years, he ran Wolf Service Center in Meadville. He was a foreman a Zehrco-Giancola Plastics in Ashtabula for many years.
Most of his life, he was a farmer on the family farm and truly enjoyed farming. He also operated Mom and Dad’s Greenhouse in Linesville. He loved tending to the greenhouse and helped support the Linesville Garden Club and Conneaut Lake Park with flowers. Joe was a member of the Conneaut Lake Lions Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Joan E. Simmerman; two sons, Howard M. Simmerman and his wife, Judy, and Hal L. Simmerman; a daughter, Heather Baker and her husband, Raymond, all of Linesville; a foster son, William Birtciel and his wife, Marylynn; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Tommy) Simmerman and his wife, Judy, of Townville; a sister, Gayle Hildack and her husband, Rodger of Andover, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Herbert; an infant daughter, Nikta; a grandson, Zachary Baker; and two brothers, Robert and Otto (Jack) Simmerman.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. S. Highway 6, Linesville.
