Herman (Ike) Blumenstein

Herman (Ike) Blumenstein, 89, of Linesville, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his residence.

Born January 6, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Herman and Helen Mettee Blumenstein.  He married Doris Lorrain Mooney in June of 1941; she preceded him in death.  He then married Dorothy Bishop who also preceded him in death.

Ike joined the Marine Corp in 1943 and was wounded on Iwo Jima.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  He was recalled to active duty in 1950 and released from active duty in 1952.  He received many awards and medals including the Purple Heart.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Ike joined the Ironworkers International in 1940 and retired in September of 1988.  He was a member of the Pine Masonic Lodge 498 in Linesville, the American Legion Post 462, the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842, the Linesville Fire Police and the Erie and Crawford County Volunteer Police.

He will be missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include four children, Ida Marie Hollabaugh of Georgia, Catherine Kornman and her husband, William, of Linesville, Marilyn Mraz and her husband, Charles, of Georgia, and Herman K. (Mike) Blumenstein and his wife, Connie, of Linesville; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, may Daniels Gower and a brother, Yaddy Davis.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Joel Weck, Associate Pastor of the Linesville First Baptist Church officiating.

Burial with full military honors provided by the Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be in St. Philip Cemetery.
