Cynthia Louise (Connick) Lasko

Cynthia Louise (Connick) Lasko, 67, of Conneautville, on December 16, 2020 God called Cindy to be with him in heaven.  She died at Marquette Hospice House in Meadville.  For the past 38 years, Cindy has fought a brave and courageous battle with a severe and disabling heart disease.

Cindy was born on April 26, 1953, in Meadville, the youngest of nine children to W. Clarence and Irene (Hotchkiss) Connick.  On October 13, 1973, she married James M. Lasko of Harmonsburg; he survives.  When first married they resided in Pittsburgh and Erie.

For the largest part of her life, she lived in Conneautville and then resided in Linesville and later in life she moved back to Conneautville and resided at Washington Street apartments, which is an apartment complex for disabled senior citizens.

Cindy graduated from Conneaut Valley High School in 1971.  In her senior year, she was awarded the Betty Crocker award for excellence in home economics.  She also studied in the bookkeeping and secretarial fields.  She was very interested in the drama department and appeared in many of the high school plays.  While in high school, she did many babysitting jobs for local residences on weekends and in the summer.  She was employed at Joe Mattera’s Grocery Store and became a camp counselor for the Crawford County Mentally disabled Association during the summers.  After high school, she was first employed in the bookkeeping and accounting department of W.T. Grant Corporation in downtown Meadville.  After that she was employed by Perkins in Edinboro and while living in Erie she was employed by Scott Enterprises as an assistant to Nick Scott Sr. and Nick Scott Jr.

Upon returning to the Linesville area, Cindy and her Husband operated Flowers by Jim in Conneaut Lake for over 20 years.  While at Flowers by Jim she did the bookkeeping, billing, and financial areas of the business.  She was an avid reader and had a passion for doing crossword puzzles.  Cindy was baptized and became a member of the Valley United Methodist Church.  Upon returning to Lineville and in the later years of her life she was rebaptized and became a member of the Conneautville Church of Christ.

For her 50 birthday she was given as a present a boxer puppy whose name was Ana.  Ana became the love of her life.  For 8 precious years, she became Cindy’s companion and died in 2011.

Cindy was the proudest of her family.  She was survived by 28 nieces and nephews of which she was god-mother to four of them, Steve Barron of New York City, Jeff Barron of Washington, D.C., Beau Bortnick of Cleveland, Ohio and Ashley Zazado of Linesville.  Cindy is also survived by three sisters, Sandra (David) Barron of Erie, Marlene Bean of Linesville, and Dorothy Timko of South Carolina; also a sister-in-law, Velma Connick of Las Vegas, Nevada; two brother-in-law’s, David Bortnick of Concord, Ohio and John (Melody) Lasko of Conneatville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; three brothers, Walter, James, and Leroy Connick; and two sisters, Edna Foltz and Barbara Bortnick; two brother-in-law’s, Wilbur Bean and Russell Timko; sister-in-law, Eileen Connick; and also her nephews, Davy and Timothy Bortnick and Richard and Jeffrey Foltz.

Cindy was a spark of life and a breath of fresh air.  What we have lost in now heavens gain.  She sadly will be missed and loved by all that knew her.

Per her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time but a public memorial service and luncheon will be held at a future date when we can all gather safely from the pandemic.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
