Together Again
Bernard “Bernie” Dale Beagle Sr. was born on October 10, 1930, in Stoney Pointe, Pennsylvania, to the late Glen E. Beagle Sr. and Marguerite Throckmorton Beagle. The eldest of four children, Bernie was raised on the Beagle family farm on Beagle Road in Linesville, Pennsylvania. Early on, Bernie worked alongside his father on the family farm and neighboring farms, and he was the sidekick to his father, Glen, a distributor for Case farm machinery. They picked up equipment across the Midwest and as far south as Georgia. These early years sparked his lifelong love of driving and the open road.
In 1949, Bernie joined the United States Army, where he trained as a heavy equipment operator and served overseas in England, helping expand a military runway for the U.S. Air Force Base. Even today, you can see the runway he worked on through Google Earth! (now called “Upper Heyford, Bicester, UK)
After returning home, Bernie and Barbara “Barb” Anne Dagen married in 1955. Together they raised five children and built a life in the Linesville area. Bernie began his trucking career hauling steel throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Bernie served with the Linesville American Legion, Post 462 and is a proud Teamster. He retired from trucking in 1981 but remained connected to the industry through his antique Ford semi-truck and membership in the American Truck Historical Society.
In the mid-1980s, Bernie returned to heavy equipment work, operating Caterpillar front-end loaders and D8 bulldozers. He later volunteered with the Pennsylvania State Troopers. His love and honor for the American flag is well known to all who knew him. Bernie enjoyed CB radios, country drives, a good cheeseburger, YouTube videos—especially RVerTV—trains, and history programs.
Following Barbara’s passing in 2020, Bernie moved to Pflugerville, Texas, to live with his son Bernie Jr. and family. He attended Forest Ridge Calvary Chapel, where his smile and bright eyes welcomed everyone as he held his position as a greeter. He will be greatly missed.
Bernie is survived by his children, Glenda Wearing of Linesville, PA, Patty (Lonnie) Corey of Zanesville, OH, Brenda (Tim) McQuiston of Linesville, PA, and Bernie (Kathie) Beagle of Pflugerville, TX; his brother, John Beagle of Linesville, PA; his grandchildren, Amber, Grace-Ann, Daniele, Michael, Katie, Lena, Peter, Clint, and Veronica; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Beagle; his daughter, Debbie Blood; his grandson, Joshua Blood; his brother, Glenn Beagle; and his sister, Twila Joanne Starcheski.
In the months to come, the family will gather at Linesville Cemetery to honor and celebrate the lives of Bernard and Barbara, laying them to rest among generations of family who have gone before them.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if you purchased and proudly displayed a United States flag in Bernie’s memory. Donations to an American Legion in his name would also be an appropriate way to honor him.
