Shyrl Hood, 92, of Linesville passed away on Saturday, July 21st, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his devoted family.  Born May 12, 1926, in Shermansville, PA, he was the only child of Clayton and Berneace Freeman Hood.  He married Lois Mushrush on March 22, 1951, in Sharon, PA.

Mr. Hood worked for the Pennsylvania Fish Commission and retired in 1991 after 43 years, his final role as the Chief of Warmwater Production.  He traveled widely in this capacity as chief and instituted changes in fish culture that are still used today.

He was a member of the Linesville United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.  He served as president of the Fish Culture Section of the American Fisheries Society.  Shyrl was a member of the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842, where he was a charter member and life member of the post, the Linesville American Legion Post 462, the Pine Masonic Lodge 498 in Linesville, and the Valley of Erie Consistory.  He also served as director of the Linesville Historical Society and was a former chairman of the Linesville Municipal Authority.

Shyrl was an avid trapper, having trapped in several states, and locally managed nuisance wildlife.  He was a member of the Pennsylvania and National Trappers Associations and the Fur Takers of America.  He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing.  One of his greatest pleasures was spending time at his property outside of Linesville where he planted hundreds of trees, built a pond, hosted family and church events, and continued his work in conservation.  He also enjoyed watching Pirates baseball, playing golf, and was a member of the Conneaut Lake Park Golf Association, and later was a member of the Andover Senior Golf League.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Lois Hood. He was the father of six children: Chris Hood and her husband, Phil Terman, of Irwin Township, Cyndi Pittsenbarger and her husband, Henry, of Linesville, Kimberly Hood of Linesville, Jerry Hood and his wife, Terry, of Conneaut Lake, Julie Houck and her husband, Tom, of Conneaut Lake, and Kyle Hood and his wife, Mary, of Gibsonia, PA.  Survivors also include twelve grandchildren, Mimi and Bella Terman, Channing Corey and his wife, Michelle, Trista Gustas and her husband, Dave, Elyse Hood, Lindsey Hood Whiteside (Josh), Ashley Hood, Cody (Hannah) and Tanner Houck, Liam, Tucker, and Macklan Hood and great grandchildren Kinley and Cayson Corey, Greyden and Gage Gustas, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
