Dale Collins Obituary
Dale Whitman Collins, 97, of Espyville, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Wesbury in Meadville.
Dale was born in Niles, Ohio, on October 9, 1920, to the late Boyd and Sarah Whitman Collins.
He attended Ohio University and graduated with an Electrical Engineering Degree. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army during World War II.
He married Florence Hoffman on September 14, 1946, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2017. Dale worked as a Quality Control Engineer at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. He and his wife retired to Espyville in 1981.
Dale was a member of the North Shenango Presbyterian Church in Espyville. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Pilots Association. Dale had served on the Espyville Cemetery Board.
He enjoyed boating, fishing and flying. He got his private pilot’s license at the age of 83. He and his wife enjoyed wintering at Jekyll Island in Georgia.
Dale is survived by his two daughters, Laurel Collins and Teri Irons and her husband, Tom, both of Espyville. Also surviving are a grandson, Clint Irons and his wife, Heather, of Edinboro and 5 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Collins, and a sister Glenayr Collins Crossman.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:30 until 7 p.m. at the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will follow on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Greg Vanderveen officiating.
Burial will be private in Espyville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Shenango Presbyterian Church, 10377 Church Rd., or the Espyville Cemetery Association, 1868 Chapel Rd., both of Espyville, Pa 16424.
