Richard (Dick) Hibbard, 84, of Conneaut Lake, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Meadville Medical Center.

Born April 30, 1933, in West Monterey, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Kathryn (Logan) Hibbard.

He graduated from Linesville High School in 1951 and then married Nancy Zimmerman on August 14, 1953.

He began his working years as an apprentice meat cutter with Loblaws, Inc., becoming meat department manager in stores in Pennsylvania and Ohio.  After Loblaws closing, he was a salesman for Sucher Meat Packing of Dayton, Ohio.

When the EMT program began in Pennsylvania, he enrolled in one of the first classes and was a longtime volunteer in the Summit Township Volunteer Fire Department, eventually becoming an instructor and evaluator.  Dick was recognized in 2006 as the Pennsylvania volunteer EMS Practitioner of the Year.  He became actively involved in Boy Scouts of America and for 25 years he organized and was scout master in every community where he lived.  While living in Niles, Ohio, he started the first ever troop for mentally challenged youth.

In 1959, he was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving our country for four years.  Richard retired from the United States Air Force Reserves in 1993 with the rank of Master Sargent.  While a member of the reserves, he was called into active duty for Desert Storm.  After his retirement from Sharon Regional Health System, he began actively volunteering for the American Red Cross Disaster Service; participating in 26 natural disasters throughout the country and served with the Red Cross at the Pentagon after the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.  He also volunteered as a court appointed special advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children.

An active member of the Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, he served as Administrative Council Chairman and on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

Dick enjoyed being outdoors hunting and camping, and watching NASCAR, football and hockey.  His favorite times were spent with his family and friends and fellowshipping with his church family.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 64 years, Nancy; a son, Michael (Justy) Hibbard; a daughter, Julie Altman; two granddaughters, Brandy (Chris) Heinrich and Sarah Hibbard; a great-grandson, Devin Heinrich; a brother, Robert (Linda) Hibbard; two sisters, Mona (Marvin) Bradway and Sandra (Thomas) Cullen; and several loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27 at the Harmonsburg United Methodist Church, 14182 First Street, Harmonsburg, with Rev. Dennis E. Lawton officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
