Pauline Lylea Brooks, 71, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Wesbury United Methodist Nursing Home where she had been a resident in College Way for over three years. She was born a twin on May 20, 1945, to John Phillip and Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Keene; her twin brother, Paul, survives. On June 7, 1979; she wed William “Sonny” Brooks. Her husband, (who, in her words, “treated her like a princess”) preceded her in death on January 16, 2015.

In the immortal lines of her favorite daytime drama, “like sands through the hourglass, so [were] the Days of [Pauline’s life]”.  In her lifetime, she had plenty of joyful days. She worked in manufacturing when she was fresh out of high school, graduating from Conneaut Lake High School’s Class of 1963. Those jobs included: Blazon of Linesville and Spaulding’s of Meadville. Although most of her energy after that went into caring for her husband and children, she and Sonny delivered The Meadville Tribune for many of their later years, until retirement.

Those who knew her can attest to her love of soap operas and game shows (she rocked at Wheel of Fortune!). Other enjoyments included: crossword puzzles, Nascar, especially #18 (Kyle Busch), Yahtzee (and other board games), family pets (shout out to her little “Minnie”), and her wonderful grandchildren. She loved listening to, as well as, singing to the great country music songs of her time; some of her favorite artists included: Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette, and George Jones.

Although the sands of her hourglass have all run through, she leaves behind many people who love her dearly and will reminisce in the memories that have been made with her; they will have these souvenirs in their hearts to soothe their tears. Survivors include her six children: Robin Coxson and her husband, James, of Conneaut Lake; Brad Harvey and his wife, Lori, of Jamestown, PA; Allen Harvey and his wife, JoAnn, of Linesville; Billie Spencer and her husband, Scott, of Conneaut Lake; Tracey Polk and her husband, Michael, of Hermitage; and Kelly Brooks of Meadville.  Her 13 grandchildren include: Ryan Coxson and Jordan Coxson; Brett Harvey; Ashley Harvey and Alanna Harakal and her husband, Anthony; Tyler Spencer; Donavan Polk, Preston Polk, Zachary Polk, Brandon Polk, and Michaela Polk; Kailynn Mofenski and Liam Mofenski. She was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Ayla Harakal, in September of 2015. She was lucky to always have her twin brother her entire life, Paul Lyle Keene (who survives) and his wife, Bonnie, of Conneaut Lake. Two very special cousins, Vincent Armstrong and Daniel Williams, also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings, Lola Mae Hubert, John Alvin Keene and JoAnn Belle Van Dusen (also twins), and Bradley Phillip Keene.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg.
