Ned W. (Bill) Thompson

Ned W. (Bill) Thompson, 96, of Linesville, died on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville.   

Ned was born to William and Mina (Baker) Thompson.  His father died when he was six month old.  Ned quit school when he was in the eighth grade to run the family farm and still resided there until he moved to Rolling Fields. 

He married Ruth (Bartholomew) when he was twenty and together they had four children and are survived by Laura Elder of Elizabethville, Linda Haney and her husband, Joe, of La Rue, Texas, Sandra Rice and her husband, Richard, and William Thompson and his wife, Sue, of Linesville.  Also, he is survived by nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. 

Ned served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Bougainville Air Craft Carrier.  He hunted and fished all his life and taught Hunters Safety Courses for 25 years.  He belonged to the Linesville Sportsman’s Trap Shooting Club.  Ned had worked on the railroad for 20 years and various other jobs to keep his family and farm going. 

As per his request, there will be no calling hours and services will be private at the convenience of the family. 

Burial will be in Penn Line Cemetery.
